Mud day

International Mud Day is children and early childhood professionals all over the world celebrating nature, outdoors, and mess by getting really muddy.

International Mud Day sounds like so much fun! What are you going to do for it?

These are some ideas:

Book suggestions
Harry The Dirty Dog - Gene Zion
Milk Rock - John Kaufman
Stone Soup - Ann McGovern
The Mud Pony - adapted by Caron Lee Cohen

Mud Painting
Gather some squishy mud in a bucket. Mix water with it till you feel it is the right consistency. Spoon some mud onto cardboard and using an old paintbrush begin. The children can use their fingers, an old comb or anything else to make interesting patterns. When finished let it dry to take home.

Dirt Prints
Mix up mud in a bucket and spread it along the ground for about 2 yards. It will need to be about 3/4 inch thick. Now put on two old shoes that are each different and walk along your mud road. Next change to two different shoes again. Take giant steps and baby steps. Smooth the mud to start again.

Brown mud
Set out a brown cardboard carton or brown paper or fabric. Ask your children to search for brown objects in the room (make sure brown toys, pictures). Whenever a brown object is found, have the children place it in the cardboard carton. At the end of the game, remove the objects and discuss their various brown shades.

Mud treat
Let your children help you make instant chocolate pudding. Pour the pudding into individual clear-plastic cups for “mud.” Have each child crush a chocolate cookie wafer inside a small plastic zipper bag. Then show the children how to sprinkle their cookie crumbs on top of their pudding to represent dirt.
I love to play!
Tune: "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean"
I love to play in the sand box.
I love to play in the dirt.
I love to play in the wet mud.
I squish it and watch it squirt.

Argentinean Flag Day

The national flag of Argentina dates from 1812.
It is a triband, composed of three equally wide horizontal bands coloured light blue, white and light blue. In 1818, a yellow Sun of May was added to the center.
The full flag featuring the sun is called the Official Ceremonial Flag (Spanish: Bandera Oficial de Ceremonia). The flag without the sun is considered the Ornamental Flag (Bandera de Ornato).
While both versions are equally considered the national flag, the ornamental version must always be hoisted below the Official Ceremony Flag.

You can read more about this celebration here:

The National Flag song

Salve, Argentina,
bandera azul y blanca.
Jirón del cielo
en donde impera el Sol.
Tú, la mÔs noble,
la mƔs gloriosa y santa,
el firmamento su color te dio.

Yo te saludo,
bandera de mi Patria,
sublime enseƱa
de libertad y honor.
Jurando amarte,
como asĆ defenderte,
mientras palpite mi fiel corazón.
Hail, Argentina,
Blue and white flag
Part of the sky
Where the sun reigns
You, The Most Noble
The Most Glorious and Saint
The sky gave you its colours

I salute you
Flag of my motherland
Grand symbol
of freedom and honour
Swearing to love you
as well as to defend you
for as long as my faithful heart beats

And you can also listen to the Argentinean Anthemn here:

Happy Flag's Day to all my Argentinean brothers around the world!
