Brr..it is cold outside- Part 2
Here we are working with snowmen. We love snowmen! Maybe because it never snows where we live, so we enjoy just playing with them in our games.

Snowhite was patterning here. Visual discrimination is an important skill. We learned about
same / different  - igual / diferente

and here she was sorting snowmen by size
big/ small  -  grande/ pequeƱo

and her favourite games, puzzles!

Snowmen are fun!

We kept exploring colours and patterns. This time I printed and cut snowmen's pieces onto red, blue, green, and yellow cardboard.

I invited her to "build"  some snowmen. First she sorted the snowmen's pieces by colour. Then she used them to make a blue and a red snowmen.

She kept thinking and decided these snowmen weren't funny so she decided to mix pieces.

while playing we reviewed colours as well as some parts of the body such as arms, hands, nose, eyes, mouth, head and body. I guided her with questions such as "What colour are his eyes?" "Has he got a green nose?" .  Finally we added a hat and a scarf.

Polar bear - follow up activities

My niece love Brown bear by Eric Carle.
I bought Polar bear just to see that she loves this book, too.

We read the book at least...a dozen of times. :) Then I taught her this song to learn some facts about polar bears

Polar Bear
Tune of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean"
The polar bear lives in Alaska,
He never gets cold in a storm,
He swims in cold icy water,
His heavy coat keeps him warm.
Warm, warm, warm, warm,
His heavy coat keeps him warm.
Warm, warm, warm, warm,
His heavy coat keeps him warm.

Of course, she is 4 years old and she doesn't write. But I made these worksheets to work with her. I guided her with questions such as "Where do polar bears live?" and I wrote her answers.
Then she drew the polar bear and dictated some sentences about it.

Polar animals ring cards

Here you have a set of ring cards to review and practice vocabulary related to polar animals and the Artic. Print, cut and laminate for durability. Use a ring or a ribbon to bind the cards. Let children identify the names of the pictures.
If you are working with older children, ask them to read the words.

You can also use the ring cards to:
Sort the animals by size.
Sort the animals by the kind they like the best to least.
Sort the animals by type.

Copy the words or to use them in sentences.
Write 3 sentences to describe the pictures.
Vote for the favourite polar animal.
