Going on a colour hunt!

Going on a colour hunt!

This time she chose 6 colours and she went on a colour hunt for small props.

using egg cartoons

Then she sorted the props in the correct mat.

"Writing" colour words using bottle taps

This is another easy way to play with colours. You just need bottle taps.  I printed the names of the colours in a sticker page, cut and pasted.

I also added a picture inside the tap

We used colour cards to "write" the names of the colours.

Colours here, colours there, colours everywhere!

What's your favourite colour? My favourite colour is green. My niece's favourite colour is pink. "Because a princess likes pink auntie" she stated.
These are some of the activities we did to review and practise colours in English.

The colour of the day

I bought these plastic baskets and we went on a colour hunt. She decided on the colour of the day so we looked for objects of that colour.
Here you can see our hunt for green.

We also talked about the different shades of colours, dark green, light green...

I spy with my little eye...

These are some of the colours collage we made. We looked for pictures of different colours and made a quilt. What is orange? She pasted the pictures in each mat. Next time I will write the name of the colour in the appropiate colour because it was difficult for her without a visual help.

When we finished the quilt we played I spy with my little eye.
For example, I spy with my little eye something green. It can jump and croack!
Yes! Frog!

I made these labels to label some of her toys.

My classroom is a box of crayons. What about yours?

We celebrated Children's day last Sunday.  We learned that God made us special and unique. Like in a box of crayons, we have a place, an important place.
We read this poem
Wouldn't it be terrible? Wouldn't it be sad?
If just one single color was the color that we had?
If everything was purple? Or red? Or blue? Or green?
If yellow, pink, or orange was all that could be seen?
Can you just imagine how dull the world would be
If just one single color was all that we could see?

As a gift and reminder of the lesson  I made a crayon with a note for each child "Can you just imagine how dull the world would be without you?"

We also wrote about us using a crayon template. Children decorated the crayon with their favourite art supplies.

Bilingual Wednesdays- Count your sheep-Part 2

This is the last part of Count your sheep Bilingual post.

To review  the numbers with my  niece, I made some sheep from felt in black and white. I added a piece of Velcro at the back and  let her count the sheep using my felt apron.

We sang this song in English and Spanish

10 little sheep
Tune: 10 little indians

One, two, three little sheep
four, five, six little sheep
seven, eight, nine little sheep
ten little sheep!

Una, dos, tres ovejitas
cuatro, cinco, seis ovejitas
siete, ocho, nueve ovejitas,
diez ovejitas hay!

This time I wanted her to identify numerals and quantities so I made these posters to count sheep while reading in Spanish.
After that, we played using the Spanish Builder -Cuenta tus ovejas /Count your sheep filefolder game. It was a bit difficult for her at the beginning because she had to identify numerals and number words but she did a good job!
To assembly the game you need a filefolder, glue and contact paper or laminator.
You will find mats, cards, labels and pockets for storage.
Invite children to match numerals and number words while counting.

Mind your super manners!

My friend Katie asked me for some ideas to work manners at school. These are some printables I made for her and for all of my followers.

If you have super manners!
This is sung to the tune of "If You're Happy and You Know It"

If you have super manners and you know it just say please,
If you have  super manners and you know it just say please,
If you  have super mannersand you know it then don't be afraid to show it,
If you have  super manners and you know it just say please.
If you have  super manners and you know it say thank you,
If you have  super manners and you know it say thank you,
If you have  super manners and you know it, Then don't be afraid to show it,
If you have  super manners and you know it say thank you.

You can add verses using you're welcome, yes mam, yes sir, excuse me, ect.

Manners badges
Each child gets a "Super manners badge". Throughout the day the children get "punches" on their badge for every "please, thank you, excuse me, etc… Whoever has the most "punches" on their badge by the end of the day wins a special prize!

I have super manners!

I have super manners. Yes, I do.
I can say "Please," and "Thank You," too.
When I play with friends, I like to share.
That's the way I show I care!

Learning a new language

Either you teach English or Spanish as a foreign language here are some tips you might help you.
Krashen says

"Acquisition requires meaningful interaction in the target language - natural communication - in which speakers are concerned not with the form of their utterances but with the messages they are conveying and understanding." Stephen Krashen

Language is a vehicle for communication, a way to express thoughts, feelings, ideas, opinions, etc so you need to give your children real reasons for communication. Let them express feelings, opinions, ask and answer, express wants, desires, dislikes, possessions, etc

Language is learnt by exposure. So you need to expose your children to the new language
whenever you can ,as much as you can, through different learning aids, taking into account your children's interests.

Language is learnt in context and it is more than academic exercise. So look for ways to make the new language learning exciting through games and hands on activities. Even grammar rules can be learned in a meaningful way when children are interested in the subject.

The apple tree - Free flannel board set

I made this flannel board set for my preschoolers. I also taught the rhyme using body movements. You can download the set for free.

The apple tree
Way up in the apple tree, (reach arms up high)
Two little apples were looking at me. (thumbs and index fingers touch, and circle eyes)
So I shook and shook and shook that tree,(shaking motion three times)
‘Til all those apples came down to me. (bring arms from high to low)
Mmmmmm. Good! (pretend to bite the apple)

This is how I stored pieces and card.

You will find the card, the pictures, tags and an envelope to store the cards

W is for Winnie Pooh and beginning sounds

Last Saturday we went to the movies to watch Winnie the Pooh 2. It was fun. Pooh in his eternal hunt for hunny and Eygore trying to find his tail.

The words from the book were incorporated in the movie. Magical letters flying on the big screen.

Those letters in the movie caught her attention and reminded her to some old mats I made last summer for her.
They were intended to play with playdough but, I printed 2 extra mats for her to color with her waterpaints.

Today I finished the mats for the rest of the characters.

And made a concentration game just for fun

Ta daa! The freebie section is now ready!

As most of you may know, I lost my website (and all its content) last February due to a "technical problem". That's how not-so-good hosting services called what I called negligence.
My granny is a wise woman. She teaches us many things but one thing I learn from her is not to cry over spilled milk and try to make the best from every situation.
So, even when it  was a long step by step road to get all things fixed again in a new hosting service I am so glad to announce the website, store and freebie section is now READY!

I want to thank to all my friends who encourage me to keep going!

I changed buttons. Do you like the new ones?

You can check the freebie section here

(I am still in the process of adding the free printables but in the meantime, you can check it out for ideas.)

Let me know what you think!
