I love writing! and you?

I love writing and love thinking new ways to improve my kids writing skills. These are some writing sticks I made for my older kids. They loved talking about their favourite things. I printed, cut and laminated them for durability.

Kids picked up one of the sticks and wrote a few sentences using it. They changed sticks when finished.

My can of cans

I can
you can
we can!
I made this activity to review the verb Can as a way to express abilities.
We made different things with the cards:
* One child pick up a card and mime the action. The rest of the children have to guess the action verb and make a sentence using can + action verb.

*Children use the cards to write sentences in affirmative, negative and interrogative form.

*Children can copy, draw and write a sentence using the cards.

*In groups children can use the cards to write a short story.

Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit

Helen Beatrix Potter (28 July 1866 – 22 December 1943) was an English author, illustrator and  natural scientist  ibest known for children's books featuring antropomorphic characters such as in The Tale of Peter Rabbit which celebrated the British landscape and country life.

The Tale of Peter Rabbit was published by Frederick Warne & Co. in 1902 with an initial 8000 copies printed and the tale has never been out of print since. She went on to publish another 22 little books over the next 28 years, the proceeds from which enabled her to buy Hill Top Farm in the Lake District. Eventually she went on to own 15 farms and over 4,000 acres of land in the area.

Are you ready for a sweet crunchy revision for parts of the speech?

I made these set of parts of the speech revision for the first days of school. I planned to review and test it with my older students.  I called it M&M challenge. I will upload some picks in the next weeks.

Something to "Moo" about

July 15th was Cow appreciation day. We took a moment with my kids to think about everything cows give to us.
I used this poem to talk about dairy products.
5 Cows
 Fingerplay
1-2-3-4-5 cows
Standing by the fence.
the farmer say “come, it's time to milk”
“We’d better not be late.”
1-2-3-4 cows
Standing by the fence.
the farmer say “come, it's time to milk”
“We’d better not be late.”
1-2-3 cows
Standing by the fence.
the farmer say “come, it's time to milk”
“We’d better not be late.”

Continue with the rest of the cows till no cow is standing by the fence.

I used these pocket charts cards for the Question of the Day

More ideas:
You can collect some labels from butter, milk, ice cream, yoghurt and cheese.
You can add a piece of Velcro or a magnet at the back to use them in the board.
Print the chart and let children brainstorm food made from cows.
Ask children “Where does milk come from? Do you drink milk every day?”
Invite them name some foods in the milk group (cream, cheese, yoghurt, ice cream).
